By Marg Lewis, Treasurer
We are pleased to report another year where we have managed to end with a small surplus. Our budget projections were not that optimistic, but thanks to Wendy and her team, they have managed to exceed expectations.
Main contributors to this surplus were lower that budgeted wages for the year and higher than forecast occasional care income. We are still maintaining our Long Service Leave and have a healthy balance in our investment accounts, which is our safety net for unforeseen expenses. Most other areas came in as forecast in the budget with Adult Education continuing to be the poorer performer. However, the Committee sees Community Adult Ed as a necessary first step for those seeking to improve their general knowledge or gain new skills, so are keen to keep this an activity of the House.
Our 2019/20 FY budget is showing a deficit, so the challenge is on for the Committee and staff to see if we can once again report a surplus at the end of our financial year.
My personal thanks to Wendy, her staff and my fellow Committee members for their support and commitment which ensures our Community House remains a vital resource for our community.

A note from the Chair: this is Marg's last report as Treasurer as she retires from the role this year, after many years' sterling service. A huge THANKYOU from all of us on the Committee and at Winch House, Marg has made a major difference to Winch House and its progress. Our challenge is on to find a replacement - do you know someone?
